Dr. MGR, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu bequeathed his MGR Garden where he lived for more than 40 years, for the education and rehabilitation of persons with speech and hearing impairment. As per the wishes expressed in his will Dr. MGR Home and Higher Secondary School was established in January 1990 and has successfully helped to educate and rehabilitate hundreds of persons with speech and hearing impairment over the past 26 years.
This institution has been progressing well with the creative vision and enthusiasm of Smt. Janaki Ramachandran, and well-wishers added to the guidance and support of stalwarts in the field of rehabilitation, and members of the technical advisory committee, who were and are the backbone of this institution.
As a need was felt to establish a training college offering B. Ed. degree course in special education to train teachers to teach students who are deaf and hard of hearing. The institution started functioning on Vijayadasami day, October 3, 2014, with 18 students.
A formal inauguration of the institution was made on 14.11.2014 by Dr. Sr. Rita Mary with 22 trainees in the presence of Ms. Leelavathi Patrick, Mrs Sarala, the Deputy Director, Department of Welfare of the Differently Abled, Mrs.Sheeba, Audiologist and Speech Pathologist in the same department, Sr. Jesintha Roselind M., Principal, Little Flower Convent and a few senior teachers of Little Flower Convent.
